www.aidsbg.info is a web site providing HIV/AIDS information in Bulgarian. Its main goal is to present updated, diverse and accessible information on HIV/AIDS by covering this subject from as many angles as possible and satisfying the information needs of as broad range of users as possible.
www.aidsbg.info was founded in 2002 by Plus & Minus Foundation in response to the lack of information on the HIV/AIDS topics in Bulgarian language. At present the web site is run by the i-Foundation.
Under the Bulgarian law Plus & Minus Foundation and i-Foundation are registered as non-for-profit legal entities working in public benefit. The missions of both organizations are to work in defense of the human and patient’s rights of the people living with HIV/AIDS in Bulgaria.
Plus & Minus Foundation was founded in 1999 in continuation of the activities by the self-help group of people living with HIV/AIDS that had operated since 1997.
The key area of our work is provision of access to state-of-the-arts antiretroviral treatment and diagnostics for treatment monitoring to as many as possible HIV-positive people in Bulgaria. To achieve this we strive to:

Spread correct information on the state-of-the-arts HIV/AIDS treatment schemes through different types of training and through publications;

Facilitate introduction of state-of-the-arts HIV/AIDS treatment and monitoring methods and practices in the country by lobbying the responsible institutions;

Accelerate introduction of new HIV/AIDS drugs in the medical practices in the country by collaborating with all key stakeholders;

Provide equal access to medical care for HIV-positive people all over the country by lobbying for decentralization of the system for provision of medical care and improvement of the organizational system.
HIV-positive people, medical professionals, volunteers and supporters from all over the country are engaged to work for the foundation. Some of them are members of leading European and international organizations. This facilitates the exchange of information and expertise as well as establishing relations with international non-governmental organizations.
i-Foundation was founded in 2004 by the team of the Plus & Minus Foundation. It was established in response to the requirements of the Bulgarian legislation as a condition for access to the funding from the Program of the Ministry of Health funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Since 2005 i-Foundation has been working under Component 8 “Appropriate and Accessible Treatment and Care for People Living with HIV/AIDS” of the Program “HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control” of the Ministry of Health funded by the Global Fund. As part of this, we run a counselling office for people living with HIV/AIDS where we provide information and counselling on antiretroviral treatment, facilitate access to medical care, and provide social and legal advice as well as psychological counselling. We develop and publish our own training materials in Bulgarian that cover broad range of aspects related to the infection and life with providing information and advice.
